National Family Reading Month

What is National Family Reading Month?

Scholastic Australia believe families make the best reading role models, so we encourage everyone to get involved and encourage their child to read for at least 10 minutes every day in May!

Watch the video below for more information from the 2018 National Family Reading Month's ambassadors Laura and Philip Bunting:

Can students count reading during school time?

Yes, in the Secondary School students are required to read for atleast 10 minutes in each of their English lessons! They can fill out their form claiming the time they spent reading in class...easy! However, reading at home and discussing the themes, characters and story lines of book can evoke some great conversations so why not continue the reading at home?

Primary School Read-A-Thon

This year the primary children are participating in a school Read-A-Thon! Read-A-Thons began in schools across Australia in 1979. It encourages children of all ages to read and improve their literacy.

The aim is get children reading as many minutes as possible!

The Read-A-Thon will end Term 2, Week 4, Friday the 25th of May.

Children will be given Read-A-Thon reading logs and these will need to be returned to their class teacher by the due date.

There will be prizes awarded per year level and a grand prize for the student who read the most across the whole primary school!

Good luck everyone and let's get reading!readathon.png
