Co-Curricular Sport
Personal development, a balanced life, self-confidence and healthy choices are the goals for Court Grammar School's extensive and ever growing sporting program. As a member of the Associated Catholic Colleges of WA (ACC), CGS teams take part in a variety of competitions providing a wide range of sports at differing competitiveness levels. All boys and girls have an excellent opportunity to represent their school and develop team spirit under the guidance of an exceptional and dedicated Physical Education team of staff members.
As well as entering teams into the majority of competitions hosted by the ACC, CGS also enters boys and girls into competitions ran by the following organisations:
- School Sport WA (SSWA)
- Western Australian Cricket Association (WACA)
- Western Australian Football Commission (WAFC)
- Southern Independent Schools Competition SISC)
- Rockingham and Kwinana Associated Sports (RKAS)
With CGS having an affiliation with multiple organisations, it ensures that our students can be entered into a variety of competitions, in a variety of different sports.
AFL
Court Grammar School has strong teams from Years 5 to 12. We offer AFL to both male and female students in nearly all school-based competitions ran by the Western Australian Football Commission (WAFC), ranging from the Year 7 Docker's Shield to the Year 12 Girls Docker's Cup. An annual two game series where we compete against a nearby High School for the 'Border Shield' at the Year 8/9 Year level has been established and this is into it's 3rd year of what sets to be a continuing tradition. Our primary school participates in the Southern Independent Schools Cup (SISC), as well as the Docker's Shield and Eagles faction football. In 2014, competitive AFL was participated by over 150 students during school-based competitions at CGS. CGS has three current teaching staff with league WAFL experience from 2009-present. Netball
Court Grammar School's netball has grown significantly over the past couple of years and is becoming a strong contributor to the female populations development of teamwork and cooperation. The program caters for approximately 90 students annually across 9 teams from Years 5 to 12. Trails for the School Sport WA State Championships begin during Term 1 and fixtures for this commence in Term 2. In past years the School has been well represented by its netballers with progressions through to the final rounds within this State Competition.
Cricket
The cricket community at Court Grammar School consists of an enthusiastic group of boys and staff members. The boys begin cricket in a competitive sense in the Southern Independent Schools Competition at Year 5 in the Super 8's format. This program is designed to introduce students to the benefits of cricket and prepare them for the skills, athletic potential and sporting development within cricket. The boys participate in a range of Super 8's competitions all the way through to Year 12. In 2015, we are entering our inaugural First XI side into a competition against nearby independent schools, which will occur in Term 4 this year. We have A Grade cricketers with district experience on our team of teaching staff.
Basketball
Boys and girls from Years 5 to 12 can represent Court Grammar in a variety of competitions ran by the Associated Catholic Colleges, School Sport WA and Southern Independent Schools. Basketball has been played at CGS since the inauguration of the RKAS competition, with the boys and girls progressing with their skills and game sense every year within this competition through to year senior school. In the Junior School, boys and girls play basketball within the SISC competition; developing the fundamental skills and understanding of the game required for the RKAS and SSWA competitions, which they'll participate in during Year 7-12.
Soccer
We are involved in soccer competitions from Years 5 to 12, playing mainly within Term 2. The School involves boys and girls of all levels of ability, giving them a chance to participate in the world game within many Associated Catholic Colleges competitions. Court Grammar School has excellent soccer facilities onsite, consisting of a full size field and one modified field for the Years 5 and 6 competitions.
Equestrian
The CGS Equestrian Team allows girls and boys to compete in the main Equestrian WA (EWA) recognized disciplines – Dressage, Jumping, Eventing, Showman, Combined Training and Showing. Team members represent CGS both as individuals and as part of the school team in the EWA Interschool events held during term 1 and during the term 1 holiday period. Students can then be selected to represent Western Australia at the National Championships, where CGS has been exceptionally represented at these titles in previous years and brought back National titles. CGS held WA's first ever school gymkhana in 2014. Students have the opportunity to ride for their house in order to try gain points towards the overall Challenge Cup as well as compete against their peers in their favourite discipline. Members of the CGS equestrian team demonstrate high levels of team spirit, sportsmanship and respect for both the sport and the organizers of the various competitions that they enter. Each year CGS students compete in the WA Interschool Equestrian competition.
