Sir Charles Court Bronze gifted to Grammar School
This morning we welcomed Mr Kerry Stokes and his wife Mrs Christine Simpson Stokes to our School and we were delighted to accept their gift of a life size Bronze sculpture of Sir Charles Court which has has been in their collection for the last 20 years.
The Court family was represented by Ken Court, his wife Lorraine and daughter Elizabeth along with brothers Barry and Geoffrey. Ken said he remembered that it took weeks of sittings to get the sculpture just right to encompass the essence of his father and feel they got it right standing life size at 5"11 ½. The suit Sir Charles is wearing is one bought by his five sons for his birthday and is paired with his favourite striped tie and brogue shoes.
Kerry Stokes spoke very fondly of his connection with Sir Charles and was so pleased the sculpture has not only found a home but that the Court family had found a way to adequately represent the legacy of Sir Charles who believed that education was essential to our young people. Therefore, he hoped the sculpture would serve as an inspiration to students of our school.
Our Board Chair, Mr David Gossage, said it was a great honor to be able to recognize Sir Charles' service to the community of Australia, not just Western Australia. "It is a very proud moment for our School board and School community to have the sculpture presented to us" Mr Gossage said.
We are on track for our change to Court Grammar in 2019 and our year 7's look superb in their new crested blazers.
